In the interview, conducted by ABC News, Mrs Palin backed Nato membership for Ukraine and Georgia.
She was also quizzed on previous comments she had made about the war in Iraq being a "task from God".
She said she was quoting the words of Abraham Lincoln: "Let us pray that we are on God's side'.
Asked about her readiness for the vice-presidency, Mrs Palin said: "When John McCain and I are sworn in, if we are so privileged to be elected to serve this country, we'll be ready. I'm ready."
