The seventh anniversary happens as Washington has begun to focus its war on terror on Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen, told a Congressional committee that it would take more military effort to fight Taliban and al-Qaeda insurgents along the Afghan-Pakistani border. A New York Times article also reported that President George W. Bush ordered military strikes by US special forces inside Pakistan without Islamabad's approval.
