The Republican convention has formally nominated John McCain as the party's candidate to run in the November 4 elections against Democrat Barack Obama.
Earlier Sarah Palin accepted her party's nomination for vice president. In a highly anticipated speech to the convention, the Alaska governor underlined her credentials as a maverick reformer.
