German Chancellor Angela Merkel is set to travel to Algeria for a two-day visit.
It's the Chancellor's first official trip to the North African country. Merkel is scheduled to hold talks with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Trade relations are expected to top the agenda as Merkel is accompanied by a large business delegation. Although a poor country, Algeria is among the world's largest gas producers and a leading gas supplier to the European Union. Merkel is expected to address the German-Algerian business council later this Wednesday.
